We can’t always choose what happens around us at any given day but we can certainly choose what goes on inside of us.

We all have our share of good and bad days. But what we do on days we wake up on the wrong side of the bed or we get knocked down by daily challenges will make a significant difference with whether we move on ready to the next level of our life or stay stuck in the present circumstance until we get the most out of it or step forward anyway until the same situation hits again, only more complicated that time around.

There’s a time to be carefree but some people are just plain careless. They don’t care what they need to care about: the importance of each passing day in their lives and how it affects those around them.

If we don’t feel good in and about ourselves, we will not be able to make others feel good too.

Because we face many challenges daily, it’s a must that we too encourage ourselves daily and not only once-a-day unlike when we take vitamins to strengthen our body but as often as it’s needed throughout the day, especially if you are going through depression or tough times like what I just went through

The word “encourage” means to inspire with courage, spirit, or confidence, to stimulate by guidance.

Here are just a few suggestions from a concerned citizen…

1.     Maintain a spiritual discipline.

Bible-reading and prayer every day helps me to stay grounded and guided for the day. One practicality of spirituality for me is that it keeps my conscience alive so I would stay away from bad decisions that may ruin my life and badly affecting those around me while it keeps me making good decisions with a positive impact on me and others.

2.     Listen to your favorite music or try something new.

Good music soothes the mind, stirs the spirit and puts you in a positive mood.

3.     Keep company with optimistic and jolly friends.

‎”Every man, however wise, needs the advice of some sagacious friend in the affairs of life.”-Plautus, Playwright.

A good laugh lets in more oxygen for better blood circulation, enhances our antibodies and exercises our facial muscles making us look younger.

 4.     Help someone.

Sharing with and helping others never fail to make you feel good. It’s a great emotional booster.

“The one who blesses others is abundantly blessed; those who help others are helped.”-Proverbs 11: 25 (The Message Bible)

You may also spread some love and inspiration through text messages to be a blessing to others.

5.     Do something…anything!

When I get stuck over-analyzing a problem and then realizing I just wasted a few good minutes and even hours of my time, I usually do a household chore to give me a sense of achievement so I can get back to resolving the issue with some level of confidence.

6.     Read inspirational articles or a book.

“Good literature has the power to change people’s thinking, and change people’s lives.”-Chuck Colson

7.     Watch your sought-after inspirational artist/speaker/author in YouTube.

One advantage of technology is that altering your mood to make you feel good doesn’t have to cost you money while some people would even spend lots of money to be at a concert/conference/seminar of their favorite icon. Good thing we have YouTube!

8.     Explore!

Don’t get stuck in your own little world. Go with a friend or a relative somewhere, do something together or enjoy the beauty of nature in a sunrise/sunset near the ocean or on top of a mountain.

If you don’t take charge and encourage yourself daily, your health, productivity and even your life can eventually be at stake which can either be a loss or gain for others, depending on how you live it.

‎”The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own. No apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on, or blame. The gift is yours – it is an amazing journey…and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.”-Bob Moawad
